When Dante speaks with Francesca in the Second Circle, he wants to understand how she and Paolo ended up there. While Francesca admits that their affair was the result of their passions getting the best of them, she also blames the book she and Paolo read together for inspiring them to abandon their morals.
To an extent, Dante agrees, admitting that he and other artists tend to write about characters, behaviors, and events that may weaken their audiences’ moral strength. Conversely, if artists stopped giving readers unrealistic expectations about romance, perhaps people would be happier in their relationships and less tempted to sin. Robert J. Sternberg advanced a variation of this hypothesis centuries after Dante’s death – namely, that your attitude towards love is shaped by the stories you encounter and internalize.
Is this true?

Into the Inferno (Dante's Life)
Beyond Time I Stand (Cantos I-V)
Feel free to print out copies of these (in handout form, obviously, or by copying and pasting the text from the file's "Outline" into a Word document) for class tomorrow; I imagine they'll help immensely on the review packet!
I won't be available Monday (traveling all day) or during Thursday's lunch/after-school sessions (cross-country league finals).
Just tell me which of the following sessions you want to visit:
- Tuesday Before School
- Tuesday During Lunch
- Tuesday After School
- Wednesday Before School
- Wednesday During Lunch
- Wednesday After School
- Thursday Before School
- Friday Before School
- Friday During Lunch
EDIT: "Friday After School" no longer works. I'll reschedule with those affected.
It'll be first come, first serve; if we run out of time during one session, come back for another one!
You won't need to e-mail me your papers anymore; I'll just download them from turnitin.com.
EDIT: Meet in B2 before school, and in H5 during and after school.
In order to submit your personal statement, head to turnitin.com and log in (or sign up for an account if you don't have one yet). The class ID is 2964788, and the password is B2H5.
Please remember to upload your files - do not copy and paste your text. The only file types I can open are .doc, .docx, and .odt...if you don't have the ability to save in one of these formats, paste your text into an e-mail to yourself and put it in a Word document on one of the library computers before school. (Solve problems proactively!)
As always, if you can't submit your paper to turnitin.com for some reason, e-mail me your file. Good luck!
Tell me whatever I need to know about where you need to sit in the second-quarter seating scheme. I'll try to accommodate those who send feedback!
(Don't request to sit by a specific person...just tell me things like "Not in the back," "Near the air conditioner," "close to the door"...etc.)

Well, that took a lot longer - and was a lot harder to write - than I expected. I didn't forget about you; some days, the blogs are easy to write, and I just had a lot of trouble translating my ideas into print this time around.
I apologize for the delay, and appreciate your patience. The post is up now, and obviously, I'm shifting the due date. It's now due by 11:59pm on Tuesday, October 20th.
