w00t! New Words for a New Year!

It's that time of year again when Merriam-Webster, the dictionary
makers, announce the new words added to the dictionary.  For this year, a
popular new word is w00tRead this article.

In such a media-rich culture as our own, we
"export" our culture through our TV shows, movies, websites, and
magazines.  And because we as Americans create a lot of new words, I
believe that "American" is a separate branch of English--a more
flexible and non-traditional branch.  (Some people may disagree with me,
and some may not like that fact that the US makes up so many words!)

Which words would you like to see added to the dictionary in
2008?  Your ideas might be techie words,
slang words, IM language… whatever.  Make
sure you define each word!

  11. Jasmine W. says:

Even if these new words or abbreviations are in the dictionary. I don't think it will be allowed in English writings. And Thet... I don't think your word would be allowed. Haha. Maybe such words that little kids use are kind of similar of what we say now. Bad usage of grammar!

    newb/newbie- somebody new at something

noob/n00b(two zeroes)- somebody who is not new at something but stinks at it

teh- a.k.a "the" because I don't have to press backspace everytime I go "teh" instead of "the"

  53. Sergio G. says:

I would consider the language that we speak too broad to add more adjectives verbs or nouns. My word that I would like to be added are the following:

__Excimulate - {ex-cim-ulate}1.) verb. to create something excellent
2.) adj. as in describing an object that was excellently made

  54. Amy W. says:

Hmm there's so many comments, so I hope the words I enter aren't already taken :-P

I'd like to see the following words in the dictionary:

pl0x - a word used usually over MMPORPG (is that the right order?) that means please. An example of this would be:
Character 1: I'm so poor. Give me some free money pl0x!
    Character 2: Noob :-D

Haxor - a word used again, usually over MMPORPG games that is equivalent to the meaning of hacker. Hackers in games are really annoying because they steal all the kills and loot everything, or they never die...etc. Example:
-Character 1 is seen using a Godmode hack and never dies-
Character 2: HAXOR! YOU NOOB, I SHALL KS YOU AND YOU SHALL FEAR MY WRATH OF LEGIT PRO-NESS!

    Hehehe :-)

  55. Michelle L. says:

my new words that i would LOVE to have in the dictionary are:

I don't really have any words that I would like to see added to the dictionary in 2008 because I think there are already enough words. I'm memorizing the SAT vocabs right now and it seems like I would never have too many because there are so much; because of this, I hope there would be no words added.

  57. Ha Eun(Grace) K. says:

i would like to see the word ROFL in the dictionary or cuz

  58. Andrew(Andy) C. says:

I would like to see the word Pwn which means Own.
Other uses- Pwned = Owned, Pwnage = Ownage

  59. So Yun M. says:

    i want to add someword that express sounds. but i can't make the word *_*;
